Homeless man arrested on suspicion of armed criminal action
Aug. 29, 2008
Columbia Police said a homeless man threatened another man with a knife Tuesday night in downtown Columbia.
According to the release, the suspected assailant, Lynn Reynolds, 52, approached a 24-year-old victim on the sidewalk at on the corner of Ninth and Locust Streets and asked for a change. When the victim produced a dollar, Reynolds produced the knife and demanded more money, police said. The victim pushed him back and was then able to flee. He sustained no injuries.
Reynolds, who does not have a history of violence in Columbia, was arrested later that night on suspicion of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action, Capt. Brad Nelson said.
"We have had some panhandlers before, but it's pretty unusual to have them result in an armed robbery," he said.
Reynolds is being held at the Boone County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
