An MU student was hit by a truck while crossing College Avenue at Rollins Street on Thursday afternoon. The victim, sophomore Yiming Zhang, was hit by freshman Lacey K. Hubbert, 18, MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said. Hubbert was traveling west on Rollins in her black Dodge Dakota and was turning left onto College Avenue when she struck Zhang, who was in the crosswalk. MU police were dispatched to the scene at about 6:18 p.m., Weimer said. Harrison Smith, a junior, was walking north on College Avenue south of the intersection when he heard tires screech. He then approached the intersection to see what had happened. He said the pedestrian seemed to have a large bump on her head but seemed to be relatively uninjured otherwise. Zhang was transported to University Hospital with no severe injuries, Weimer said. Police cars and MU security blocked the southbound lane of traffic on College while an MU security guard directed traffic and MU police interviewed witnesses. After Zhang was transported to the hospital, MU police took photos of the scene and spray painted the location of the tires. The driver was issued a summons, Weimer said.
