A search warrant served by the Columbia Police Department's SWAT team resulted in the seizure of a stolen computer, monitor and digital scales.

The search warrant was issued around 4 p.m. Monday at an apartment along the 1400 block of Wilkes Boulevard and was obtained as a result of an investigation conducted by CPD's Major Crimes Unit.

CPD Sgt. Ken Hammond confirmed the search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation of the apartment.

"Major Crimes Unit had been conducting an investigation and needed probable cause in order to get the search warrant," Hammond said.

Officers went into the apartment with the intent of searching for various items that were believed to be stolen, a news release from the department stated.

Once the officers entered the apartment, they encountered an adult man and an adult woman. Both subjects were detained while the officers conducted their search.

Hammond said the individuals were not arrested because they were probably not the people who were involved with the case.

"They were probably just there when officers arrived but not involved with the case," Hammond said. After a more extensive search of the apartment, police found a computer, a monitor and digital scales.

Police think the computer and monitor were stolen because their serial numbers were removed, the news release stated, and police think the digital scales were used to weigh illegal drugs.

Hammond said these arrests are not connected to arrests made at Gatehouse Apartments earlier this week, but these problems have been happening throughout Columbia lately.

Hammond said the SWAT team is used with the majority of search warrants issued because of the danger with the people involved.

No arrests were made during the search, but the investigation is ongoing.
