Tigers swimming and diving hosts Show-Me Showdown

Tiger women, men swimmers took first and second at the event.

The Missouri swimming and diving team participated in the annual Show-Me Showdown on Saturday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center, facing seven teams from around the state. The men's team finished in second place with a final score of 313.5 points to Missouri State's 346.5 points.

For Missouri, individual winners included junior Jordan Hawley, who won the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 20.90 and fellow junior Anders Melin, who won the 50-yard fly with a time of 23.16.

Sophomore Yaniv Schnaider also took home a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:52.97. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hawley, Melin, junior Jeff Hendricks and freshman Joe Hladik captured a first place title with a time of 3:07.88.

The diving team took first place in the one- and three-meter springboard competition. Senior Greg DeStephen won the three-meter competition with a score of 272.10 points and fellow junior Dante Jones finished second with 265.40 points.

The women's team finished first with 382 points and Missouri State finished second with 317 points.

A Tiger swimmer took first place in all 16 events, beginning with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Kim Jasmer, junior Francie Szostak and sophomores Lisa Nathanson and Stephanie Rovig, who won with a time of 1:34.29.

Nathanson also won the 50-yard freestyle, and Jasmer took first place in the 100-yard fly.

Senior Colleen Gordon won the 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard fly, and junior Morgan McCleery took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke. Freshman Cassie Cunningham won the 100-yard backstroke, recording the sixth fastest time in school history.

Missouri's diving team also won both the one- and three-meter springboard competitions, with sophomore Jordan Morcom winning the three-meter competition with 283.5 points.
