Saturday's community service project with Adopt-A-Highway will mark the conclusion of Delta Sigma Theta's Delta Week 2009.
In honor of the sorority's founding Jan. 13, 1913, at Howard University, this year's theme was "DST Presents: 191.3 The DSTinction."
Each day's event had a corresponding song title to go with the day's theme.
Devona Moore, Second Delta Sigma Theta Vice-President, said she was most looking forward to Saturday's event.
"We're inviting the community to come out and help up make that area beautiful," Moore said.
The song title that matches Saturday's event is Michael Jackson's "Heal the World." Transportation to the Adopt-A-Highway location will be provided at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center at 9:30 a.m.
"It's been a great turnout so far," Moore said Tuesday night. "All of the week's events are great."
Music, such as Beyoncé's "Radio," filled Bengal Lair on Tuesday night as spectators and potential bidders crowded in for the Delta Date Auction. Raheem DeVaughn's "Customer" was the event's song title.
"You could find a possible love connection," Glover said about the event.
The people up for auction had the opportunity to share their hobbies and a description of their ideal date.
National Pan-Hellenic Council President Derrick Christian was dressed in a vest and red bowtie for the event. Christian was auctioned off for 700 Delta dollars.
Glover said one American dollar is equal to 10 Delta dollars.
"It will go to different programming that we'll do this year," Glover said about the money raised Tuesday night.
Glover said programs benefiting from the Delta Date Auction include King of Hearts, a scholarship fund for MU men, and the Delta After Dark Talent Extravaganza, whose proceeds in turn benefit local domestic violence shelters.
Freshman Clarissa Hughes said she heard about the Delta Date Auction from a Facebook event.
"It's really fun and interesting," Hughes said about the event. "I've seen these on TV and it's pretty much the same."
Sunday's church service at Urban Empowerment paired with Mary Mary's "God In Me."
According to its Web site, Urban Empowerment presents a unique, community-driven, evangelistic environment devoted to exploring and defining the person's God-given purpose.
Delta Sigma Theta President Alisha Glover said "Real Love" by Mary J. Blige went along with Monday's REALationship Forum, where they invited a relationship expert to speak.
Freshman Carl Bruce heard about Tuesday's event through Delta Sigma Theta members and came to support them. He said he has a connection with them through family.
"I went to the event yesterday, which was the relationship forum," Bruce said Tuesday night. "I also plan on going to the poetry night."
Hughes said she planned on attending other Delta Week 2009 events.
"They made me feel comfortable here," Hughes said.
Alicia Key's "Superwoman" was paired with Wednesday's Diva-to-Diva, a women-only discussion on the stereotypes of women in the media, Glover said.
Thursday's Tailgate Watch Party is in collaboration with the Legion of Black Collegians. The event's corresponding song title is "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor.
Glover said Friday's Poetry Night is an open mic night. Floetry's "Floetic" is the night's song title.
