Emily Garner, Campus and Community Relations Committee chairwoman of the Missouri Students Association, resigned this week.

MSA Senate Speaker Amanda Shelton is in charge of finding and interviewing candidates for the newly open positions.

"I'll use the same process for CCRC that I've used for the others," Shelton said. "In the Monday report, I will send out the application, and they will be due by the end of the business week along with a resume for interested individuals. I will then schedule interviews for all of the applicants and speak with the current CCRC leadership."

Garner is the fourth chairperson to step down this semester. Other chairpersons to step down so far are Erica Zucco of Academic Affairs, Josh Travis of Operations and Paul Whiteside of Student Affairs.

This is the second semester Garner held the title of CCRC chairwoman.

"I'm studying abroad next semester, but I'm coming back," Garner said. "I plan on getting back into MSA after my leave of absence."

The other three chairpersons left primarily because they found they didn't have the time to fulfill their duties.

MSA members are talking about paying committee chairs a stipend of $650 to increase retention and accountability for the positions. The amount of legislation has decreased due to the turnover, but long-term projects, events and service initiatives have increased, Shelton said.

"Unfortunately, rapid mid-semester turnover is not unusual for Senate and mainly results from academic concerns of upper-level students who are completing their capstone and graduation requirements, studying for the LSAT or GMAT, etc.," Shelton said.
