A clerk and customer at Midwest Petroleum on Business Loop 70 were robbed Sunday night, according to a Columbia Police news release.
CPD officers were dispatched at 7:57 p.m. while the robbery was in progress.
The victims said a man entered the gas station and approached the checkout counter. He then displayed a handgun and demanded money from both the clerk and a female customer who were in the store at the time, the release stated. Neither victim was physically injured during the robbery, but the suspect took an undisclosed amount of money from both victims.
The suspect is described as being between 5-foot-4-inches and 5-foot-6-inches with a thin build. The suspect covered the bottom portion of his face with a tan mask. He was last seen wearing a dark-hooded jacket with white stripes on both sleeves, the release stated.
The suspect was last seen running southbound from Midwest Petroleum.
CPD Capt. Stephen Monticelli said the store has video surveillance the police are reviewing to find leads. He said having a video surveillance system and more than one attendee working typically helps deter robbers. There was only one man working at Midwest Petroleum on Sunday night.
Monticelli said the investigation has been referred to the major crimes unit for a follow-up because the investigative unit is busy working on a homicide that happened Monday morning.
