Police said domestic dispute turned violent early Saturday morning when a man stabbed his roommates over problems with the household bills.
Police were dispatched to an apartment at 2808 Jacobs Place around 1:21 a.m. Saturday after a call came in saying there was a disturbance involving a knife and multiple stabbing victims.
Raymond Tatum allegedly got into an argument with his sister and nephew, who both live with him, about who was and was not paying their share of the household expenses. Throughout the course of the argument, Tatum stabbed his nephew in the leg twice and forced his sister's head through a wall, a Columbia Police Department news release stated.
Tatum's sister suffered a laceration to her head.
Both victims were treated at the scene and refused further treatment from emergency medical personnel. Tatum was intoxicated at the time the argument took place, the release stated.
By the time police arrived at the scene, both victims were outside of the apartment and Tatum was leaving the area.
Tatum was arrested and charged with first-degree domestic assault, second-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
From this point on, the domestic violence coordinator will investigate the case, CPD Capt. Stephen Monticelli said.
"He has been charged appropriately," Monticelli said. "Hopefully, they will make the case one to hold onto the charges."
The domestic violence coordinator will either help to resolve the case without further legal action or will help the prosecutors to make their case against Tatum.
