Banks offer advice on avoiding overdrafts

Freshman Thomas Leonard withdraws money from an ATM at Commerce Bank on Thursday using his debit card. Leonard was hit with overdraft fees in October and was unaware of the scope of fees at the time. According to the FDIC, almost half of young adults have overdrawn their bank account at least once, leading to sometimes expensive fees from spending money they don't have.
