Bowen's opinion unfounded in today's world

Published March 12, 2009

Today, when 60 of the top 100 Fortune-ranked businesses include gender identity in their non-discrimination policies (up from just three in 2000), Mr. Bowen's column in The Maneater ("Student leaders lack maturity to be curators") shows just how out of touch he is with the progressing world. Not only does an inclusive non-discrimination policy show that you care about your employees, it also makes you competitive in attracting top talent. The same applies to institutions of higher learning, such as Mizzou.

Mr. Bowen, you will make it much further in life, have greater success, and, yes, even make more money the sooner you learn to stop wasting your time on messages of intolerance and discrimination and start to realize that our strength as human beings lies in our diversity. Bleeding-heart ramblings aside, think of the PR nightmare that statements like yours would be for any company. Now, tell me about maturity and responsibility again, please.
