Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched for an armed robbery in progress around 8:45 a.m. Friday to the Break Time Convenience Store at 200 N. Providence Road.

The suspect, 35-year-old Andre Logan, waited for a clerk to open the cash drawer of a register, before reaching over the counter and taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, a department news release stated.

The clerk attempted to stop Logan by grabbing his arm, but Logan pulled free and fled before police arrived on scene.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the robber was in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall and was wearing gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Witnesses also told police what vehicle the robber fled in, including a license plate number. The registration came back to an owner in Jefferson City, the release stated.

CPD contacted the Jefferson City Police Department for assistance.

A detective in Jefferson City made contact with an associate of Logan, who said the vehicle was located in the 300 block of Ninth Street in Columbia.

CPD was able to find the vehicle and officers took Logan into custody at 302 N. Ninth St. without incident at about 9:45 a.m. the same day as the robbery, the release stated.

Some of the stolen money was recovered and is being held in evidence.

"Ultimately that money will go back to the store," CPD Sgt. Daniel Beckman said.

After being taken into custody, Logan made incriminating statements to investigators and was arrested for second-degree robbery, police said.
