Baseball sweeps Cornhuskers
Missouri's 12-9 win against Nebraska on Sunday finished off a three-game sweep of the Cornhuskers and pushed the Tigers' win streak to seven games.
Senior first basemen Steve Gray drove in four runs Sunday as the Tigers (28-21, 14-10 Big 12) pounded out 10 hits. The team has won eight of its last nine Big 12 match-ups and 11 of 13 overall.
Looking for its second-straight conference sweep, Missouri exchanged blows with Nebraska in the second inning. After the Tigers plated three in the top half, Nebraska answered with five runs of its own in the bottom half.
The Tigers took the lead for good behind a four-run sixth inning while adding five insurance runs in the next two frames.
Senior pitcher Nick Tepesch improved to 5-4 on the year as coach Tim Jamieson used eight different pitchers to get the win.
Missouri completed the sweep despite being outhit by Nebraska 15 to 10.
The series started with an 8-4 Missouri triumph Friday with Gray leading the way with three hits and two RBIs. Junior pitcher Kyle Gibson notched his eighth win of the season by going eight innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out eight.
Sophomore pitcher Brad Buehler pitched a scoreless ninth to nail down the victory for Missouri.
The Tigers rode a four-run fourth inning to a 6-3 victory in the second game of the series Saturday. Senior second baseman Austin Holt reached base four times and scored and drove in a run.
Senior right fielder Ryan Lollis provided Missouri some insurance runs in the sixth inning with a two-run double as senior pitcher Scooter Hicks picked up the win.
Track produces two first-place finishes
Inclement weather cut Friday's Arkansas Twilight track meet short, but two Tigers still managed to come away with first place finishes.
Senior Chris Rohr won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 68.62 meters, and senior Krishna Lee won the women's discuss with a distance of 47.29 meters.
Lee also finished third in the hammer throw by tossing 58.37 meters.
On the pole vault, junior Brian Hancock finished second by clearing 17 3/4.
Men's golf finishes ninth in Big 12
The Missouri men's golf team placed ninth at the Big 12 Championships last week in Hutchinson, Kan.
Sophomore Will Harrold was the top finisher for the Tigers, tying for 17th place at 17-up. On the final day of competition, Harrold jumped 10 spots from No. 27 after shooting an even-par 70.
The only other Tiger to place in the top-30 was senior Ryne Fisher who finished in 27th place at 23-up.
Potter leads Tigers in women's golf
The Missouri women's golf team tied for 11th at its conference championship tournament in Lubbock, Texas.
Leading the way for Missouri in the individual standings was junior Julia Potter. She tied for 20th place after shooting a team-low 79 in the final round.
The good news didn't stop there for Potter as she was to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team and earned a bid to the NCAA East Regional.
