Editorial: Margherio advocated for sustainability success

Margherio was Sustain Mizzou president for one year.

Published May 8, 2009

Maybe it's because students overwhelmingly voted to create a sustainability fee, or because Sustain Mizzou has grown into one of the most active groups on campus, but Pat Margherio has been making headlines in his own right.

As Sustain Mizzou's president, Margherio teamed up with multiple student organizations and administrative offices to make Mizzou's black and gold more green.

He said his proudest achievement from this year is the creation of a sustainability fee. The $1 per student fee will total about $52,000, allowing for a committee of students to determine projects with the allotted money and the hiring of eight students to work on sustainability projects.

Although Margherio's term as Sustain Mizzou president recently ended, he said he has big plans to continue sustainability works on campus and hopes to reach out to campuses other than MU.
