This school year, students will have a say in what movies are shown on MUTV. The Residence Halls Association will work with MUTV to decide what movies to broadcast. Last year legislation was passed stating RHA would have control over picking the movies.

RHA President Rachael Feuerborn said the decision to join forces was mutual as both parties were becoming agitated with the movie schedule.

"The people at MUTV were running out of ideas on what movies to play and because the residence halls do give MUTV funding it made sense for us to help them out," Feuerborn said.

MUTV and RHA created a delegate position to communicate between the organizations. It will be the delegates job to make sure students get to see the movies they want to watch on MUTV.

Feuerborn said the delegate will likely discuss movie options with RHA representatives to receive student input on movie choices.

Students can put in their requests by talking to their hall representative and are also welcome to attend RHA meetings.

All residence hall dwellers pay a social fee to live on campus, and a portion of this fee goes to the Department of Residential Life — where the funds to show movies on the student-run channel come from. "We have had this channel for more than 20 years," Director of Residential Life Frankie Minor said. "When living in a residence hall, students obviously will want to watch movies so we would rather them have some local control versus what is pushed by a national chain."

Minor said the Department of Residential Life does have a contract with Swank Motion Pictures who gives them a library of movies to pick from. MUTV does not have the rights to show any movie they wish.

Jones Hall resident, freshman Morgan Johnson, said she would appreciate having a voice in the film selection.

"I think it would be really nice for the students' opinion to be taken into consideration when deciding what movies are shown, seeing as we are the audience and we are the ones paying for the service," Johnson said.
