Columbia Police were involved in a short pursuit and standoff Tuesday evening.

According to a Columbia Police Department news release, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of Woodlawn Avenue, in Columbia, at approximately 5 p.m. The caller heard several shots and saw a burgundy Dodge Stratus leaving the area. Officers responded but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to another shots fired call, in the area of Grand Avenue and King Street. Columbia police attempted to pull over a red Dodge Stratus on Tuesday at 11:31 p.m. near the intersection of Hardin and Broadhead Streets after earlier reports of shots coming from the vehicle, the news release stated.

Police were then led in a short pursuit that continued west on Worley Street and then north on Claudell Lane and included shots being fired at police from the vehicle, CPD spokeswoman Jessie Haden said.

The pursuit quickly ended with the suspects crashing through a security gate at the Columbia Square Town homes located off Claudell Lane. The suspects fled on foot into an apartment containing three female adults and an infant. Haden said the three adults and infant were released unharmed a short time later after crisis negotiators arrived on the scene.

Columbia SWAT, a mobile command center and the “peace keeper” special weapons and tactics vehicle were also called to respond.

At 3 a.m., one of the three suspects in the apartment surrendered without incident along with another suspect about five minutes later.

Around 5:30 a.m., the third suspect was captured after the SWAT team deployed tear gas and then officers made entry into the apartment, the news release stated.

Suspects Andre Dexter, Trotier Sirin, Kimo Spivey and Tori Rose were arrested. Charges are still to be determined but it is anticipated the four will be arrested for first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, the news release stated.
