The Columbia Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place early Saturday morning outside Club Secret in Columbia.
Two victims were shot outside the club at about 3 a.m. Saturday at 3906 Peachtree Drive, CPD spokeswoman Jessie Haden said. One was shot in the finger and the other in the hip, Haden said.
Haden said officers arrived at a local hospital around 3:30 a.m. to speak with the victims and were told neither victim saw the shooter.
"The people we talked to weren't very cooperative," Haden said. "Sometimes that happens. The male and female victim did tell us that there were fights throughout the night."
Haden said the victims' names cannot be released due to safety concerns, in case the victims did know their attacker but were not willing to the tell the police.
"A lot of times people don't tell us what really happened," Haden said. "Sometimes they're afraid of the person. They may know who did this to them and they're afraid of further retaliation."
Club Secret has shut down since the shooting, and Haden said the department doesn't expect any more ongoing problems from the business in the future. The club, which is relatively new, had received its city business license but not state liquor license, Haden said.
"From what I've heard on a couple levels, they weren't supposed to be operating anyways," Haden said. "Even if they had the liquor license, they would have had to clear the place out at 1:30 in the morning and this happened at 3 in the morning."
Haden said it is unknown whether the owners of Club Secret will receive any repercussions but does not expect there will be any criminal charges.
"There may not be any criminal actions but at far as the state is concerned, I don't know," Haden said.
Haden also said under the circumstances, the department might still solve the case and encourages citizens to use Crime Stoppers if they know any information involving the shooting.
