Justin Q. Mull, an employee of University Catering, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree sexual misconduct last week.
MU Police Department Capt. Brian Weimer said while Mull was working at a university event Jan. 27, he sexually assaulted a female co-worker by rubbing her back and grabbing her breast and buttocks. Mull then tried to make her touch him.
"He attempted to make her touch his penis through his pants, but she was able to pull her arm away," Weimer said.
Mull was arrested Friday, Weimer said.
Weimer said he is not able to disclose any more information until Mull goes to court, due to the sexual nature of the crime. He also said he couldn't comment on whether Mull has had similar offenses.
"That kind of info can not be released because it can prejudice the case and be argued to try him with an unfair trial," Weimer said. "That's why we don't release anything like that."
Weimer said crimes involving sexual misconduct happen rarely on campus and he can't remember any similar cases happening recently.
"It's definitely not something that's common," Weimer said.
The MUPD Clery release archive contains three reports of sexual offenses since 2005.
MU spokesman Christian Basi said Human Resources requires applicants to pass a background check prior to working at MU.
According to the MU Human Resources Services Web site, some applicants, such as students who hold a student employee title, are exempt from criminal background checks.
The Human Resources Policy Manual states those who are required to register as Missouri sex offenders are not permitted to hold professor or instructor positions. For other positions, the policy states employment decisions would consider all relevant factors, including the applicant's registry and the job responsibilities.

So Captain Weimer can't provide any information on previous offenses, but he can state that the "innocent until proven guilty suspect" Mull was working at a university event Jan. 27, he sexually assaulted a female co-worker by rubbing her back and grabbing her breast and buttocks. Mull then tried to make her touch him. "He attempted to make her touch his penis through his pants, but she was able to pull her arm away," Weimer said. How can you not provide extra information, but state as a fact that he did the above listed acts. It seems to me that quoting those acts would taint the jury as well. You pretty much, no you said he did those things.
