The Boone County Sheriff's Department launched its newly designed Web site Monday.
Sheriff's Department Major Tom Reddin said this "facelift" makes the site more user-friendly and informative for citizens who rely increasingly on the Web site for information.
"It was more a desire than a necessity," Reddin said. "The whole goal was to keep up-to-date with technology on the Web site and provide information to the community at the click of a button."
Web developer James Barnes of the Boone County Information Technology Department designed the new site.
Reddin said sheriff Dwayne Carey had been considering redesigning the Web site for a while.
"A lot of ideas were kind of pulled together and in early December, James was able to start working on it and he just did a fantastic job," Reddin said.
Reddin also said Barnes met with the department regularly during the process.
The Web site's new features include links to related organizations and an easy to use employment tab.
Downloadable applications for the department's Ride-Along Program and contact information for both administrative staff and the DOVE Unit are also available on the new Web site.
Reddin said the Web site's new daily incident log would become functional once the necessary software is implemented.
The site has also added "unsolved homicides" with information about the murders of Leigh Ann Wilson, Peggy Susanne Donath and Cinde Kemple-Buchner. The page offers brief summaries of the cases and provides phone numbers citizens can call if they have any information.
Although the new Web site has new information and links, it also makes old information easier to find, Reddin said.
"There's a fair amount of information on the Web site that's not new," Reddin said. "It just has a better look to it. On our homepage the icons are much bolder and readily located for people to access information."

It would be nice if you included a link to the website.
