Letter to the Editor:
MU community must challenge hate
Published March 12, 2010
The members of the Department of Women's and Gender Studies wish to express their outrage about the act of hate committed at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center last week. This heinous act violated all of us at our university. Incidents like this are not isolated, but rather part of a history that we live with and must confront.
As a university community, we must continue to create a climate of inclusivity and challenge all forms of hate. We can employ our best tool to address this action: education. When we educate our students about diversity issues, they can (and do) go on to do the work of challenging racism, sexism, classism and heterosexism.
