MU Police Department officers responded to a report of a robbery Sunday near the northeast corner of Conley Avenue Garage, an MUPD news release stated.
The robbery happened at about 2:30 a.m., when the victim said two people approached him, the release stated. The suspects robbed the victim at gunpoint, taking his wallet and cellular phone. The weapon was described to be a small silver semi-automatic handgun, the news release stated.
MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said the victim was not injured during the incident. Police have an idea of how much was stolen from the victim, but Weimer said the department cannot release the information because the case is still under investigation.
"The facts of the investigation will not be discussed," Weimer said.
According to the news release, the victim saw the suspects run north on Sixth Street toward Stewart Road and eventually turn west on Stewart Road. A white sedan was seen speeding south on Sixth Street and onto Stewart Road during the time of the incident. Weimer said it is possible the vehicle had something to do with the robbery. If the vehicle was not involved, Weimer said he hopes the driver will call to report any additional details.
"The vehicle might have possibly intersected with the suspects or may have possibly seen something, so hopefully they'll call," Weimer said.
No arrests have been made as of Monday.
According to MUPD's Campus Safety and Crime report, three robberies were reported on campus in 2008. Statistics from 2009 have not yet been released. Information on the robbery was sent to the student body in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998.
Anyone with information is asked to call MUPD Detective Michael Laughlin, Crime Stoppers or submit tips online at 875tips.com, the news release stated. Tips can remain anonymous and if information leads to an arrest, it will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,500.
