MUPD makes heavy drug bust

The students were arrested in a parked car at Campus Lodge Apartments.

Three MU students were arrested on drug charges Thursday at Campus Lodge Apartments, MU Police Department Capt. Brian Weimer said.

The students were found in a parked Toyota with two other men who were not arrested, Weimer said. The arrest was made around 4 p.m., according to the MUPD Daily Activity Summary.

"When (the officers) approached the vehicle, they were able to smell marijuana coming from the vehicle," Weimer said.

This gave the officers probable cause to search the car, which led to the arrests.

Weimer said MUPD was the arresting agency because the university leases at Campus Lodge.

MUPD officers found 125 grams of marijuana packaged in 17 bags, 6 tabs that tested positive for LSD, a scale and a grinder with marijuana residue in the backpack of freshman Matthew Norris, Weimer said. Norris also had a paper that could be a drug ledger.

Officers also found a resealable bag with 30 tabs that tested positive for LSD under the driver's seat, where freshman Matthew Weintrub was sitting. Weimer said freshman Remy Bourgeois had large bong, a grinder and additional pipes with marijuana residue in his backpack.

Norris, 18, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia; possessing a controlled substance except marijuana; and the distribution, delivery and manufacturing of controlled substance, Weimer said.

Weintrub, 19, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance except marijuana, Weimer said. He was also charged with resisting arrest by lawful detention because he refused to get out of the car and kept pulling the door shut.

Bourgeois, 19, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Last year, MUPD made 228 arrests for drug possession and eight for the sale or manufacturing of drugs, according to the Missouri Uniform Crime Reports. It made 20 arrests for possession and one for sale or manufacturing in January 2010.

Legalize it! :) Stop wasting resources and tax money on a failed, endless war similar to the crap in the book 1984 with Oceania, Eastasia, and other big nation-continent.

Oh no! People getting high! What a menace to society! MUPD, you are a joke. I can't believe that my taxpayer dollars go to fund a police department that is one step above mall security. What kind of person joins an organization devoted to giving out parking tickets, calling in tow trucks, giving MIPs, and busting harmless stoners? Get a real police job. I'm sure the cops were brimming with pride after their big "drug bust". Just more victims of the pointless, failed, and illogical War on Drugs and more money for that embarrassing excuse for a police department.
