The Columbia Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at 6:34 a.m. Thursday at El Maguey on 901 E. Nifong Blvd.
CFD Battalion Chief James Weaver said crews arrived at the location at 6:36 a.m. and found fire and heavy smoke coming from the kitchen of the restaurant.
"They have not released the exact cause of the fire yet," Weaver said. "No one was working at the time."
Weaver said firefighters had the fire under control within fifteen minutes of arrival. Valhalla's Gate, a game store below the restaurant, also sustained damages from the fire.
The cost of damages from the fire has been estimated to be around $1 million, Weaver said.
