POET Biorefinery in Macon

The Macon biorefinery, the first facility of its kind in Missouri, will celebrate its 10th anniversary next week.

• The plant directly employs 45 people.
• It annually makes 46 million gallons of ethanol.
• More than 300 farmers invest in the biorefinery.
• John Eggleston, of Memphis, Mo., led a group of local farmers to bring the plant to Macon.
• It took five years to bring the plant to Missouri.
• After one week, the plant produced more fuel than expected.
• The refinery also supplies most of Macon's energy.
