Mason Cummins, 29, was one week away from graduating from the School of Medicine when he died May 8. Cummins, son of Cole Cummins and Donna Cummins, was raised in Sarcoxie, Mo. and graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1999.

He later attended Drury University, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. Eric Levell was a friend of Cummins. They both attended Sarcoxie High School, were college roommates and fraternity brothers.

“He was passionate,” Levell said. “He was going to medical school. His love was photography.”

Cummins photographed Levell’s wedding.

“He was just an artist all around,” Levell said. “He played the piano, violin and sang.”

Levell said Cummins was a very loving, giving and selfless person and a great friend.

“He always thought of others before himself,” Levell said. “He was very smart and a deep thinker.”

Levell said Cummins was taken too soon.

“He will definitely be missed,” Levell said. “He had a lot to give to the world still.”

Andrew White was another friend and high school classmate of Cummins.

“We went to high school together,” White said. “We continued our friendship afterward.”

White said Cummins was a great musician and passionate about whatever he did.

“I would describe him as a man of passion,” White said. “It didn’t matter if it was school, photography or art.”

The funeral for Cummins will be 4 p.m. May 13 at the First Baptist Church in Sarcoxie. In lieu of flowers, contributions are being accepted by the Freedom Christian Fellowship Church, where Cummins was a member, and the Sarcoxie Community Outreach Program.
