Missouri won the first game of a three-game weekend series at Texas Tech on Friday. In the final game, senior first baseman Aaron Senne broke the Missouri record for career hits.
The Tigers won the first game of the series 12-8 in 11 innings. After blowing a save by allowing a run in the ninth inning, junior Jeff Emens won his third game of the season by shutting the Red Raiders out in the 10th and 11th innings.
Freshman second baseman Eric Garcia and junior catcher Ryan Ampleman both hit home runs in the victory. Garcia had three hits in the game, and Ampleman and three other Tigers had two.
Texas Tech ended Missouri's four-game win streak by taking the second game of the series 5-4. Tigers' ace junior Nick Tepesch allowed five runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings of work, but the Tigers came up short on offense.
Sophomore left fielder Ryan Gebhart led the Tiger offense with three hits and two RBIs. Senior shortstop Michael Liberto had two hits as well.
Missouri lost the final game of the series by a 16-15 score. Senne's two hits put him ahead of Jayce Tingler on the Missouri all-time hits list with 275. Junior third baseman Brett Nicholas is on an 18-game hit streak after hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Garcia tied the game at 15 with an RBI base hit in the top of the ninth inning, but Texas Tech scored in the bottom of the inning to take the game and the series.
Missouri is 23-19 this season and 7-10 in the Big 12. The Tigers return home Tuesday to play Missouri State.
Track and field
The Tigers took six titles at the Arkansas Twilight meet Friday in a final tune-up before hosting the Big 12 Outdoor Championships next week.
Sophomore Leslie Farmer set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles and placed second with a time of 59.58. Senior Lana Mims won the women's long jump and placed third in the 200-meter dash.
Freshman Megan Collins took first in the women's discus by throwing 49.01 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore Blake Irwin took home the crown in the 800-meter run.
