Missouri starting cornerback Aarion Penton has been suspended indefinitely from the Mizzou football program following an arrest on a possession of marijuana charge.
According to Columbia Police Department records, police arrested Penton at 1:40 a.m. Friday for having less than 35 grams of marijuana — a misdemeanor charge. “We are aware of the situation and he has been suspended indefinitely,” Athletic Department spokesman Chad Moller said in a text message.
Penton, a sophomore, has recorded three interceptions and 18 tackles this year.
The suspension could cause Penton to miss the Tigers’ next game against Texas A&M.
Mizzou will already be without the services of senior starting safety Braylon Webb for the first half of the game against the Aggies. Webb was ejected in the second half against Kentucky last week for a questionable targeting call. He has the most starts of any current safety in the Southeastern Conference.
Against the Aggies’ high-powered air raid offense, Mizzou’s depleted secondary could become an issue.
