Last fall, MU launched a new and improved goMizzou application for students.

Part of the smartphone application is a STRIPES module that allows students to request a ride home from anywhere in Columbia from Thursday through Saturday nights. The Missouri Students Association and goMizzou App Committee worked with the Division of Information Technology in order to advance the application for all students.

MSA President Xavier Billingsley said he thinks the STRIPES update is a positive aspect of the goMizzou application, as well as the program’s increasing number of members.

“It is great the STRIPES and the goMizzou App Committee is expanding,” Billingsley said in an email. “With this technology, students can easily request a safe ride home from anywhere in the Columbia area. This helps expand STRIPES and put this MSA auxiliary on a new level as one of the best safe rides program in America.”

According to a Jan. 17 news release, STRIPES recently gave its 100,000th safe ride.

STRIPES Director Andrew Worrall said he thinks the increase in members will aid the efficiency of the program altogether.

“Members are truly the backbone of our organization,” Worrall stated in a news release. “We’re lucky to have such a great group of students this semester. They’re very motivated, and I hope they enjoy being a part of STRIPES as much as I have.”

STRIPES driver Andy Early said he thinks the growing number of students getting involved with the program is essential.

“I think it’s great that (STRIPES) is growing,” Early said. “Some nights we are scrambling to find enough drivers even with the five night per semester minimum.”

Billingsley said the December reports showed the goMizzou application had almost 40,000 downloads.

“Out of the Big 12 schools, we might have one of the best apps,” Billingsley said. “Students love the (Campus Dining Services) menu, the athletics tab or even the campus map. It simply makes students lives way more easier.”

Both MSA and the goMizzou App Committee have immediate plans to improve the application even further.

“We are adding a library module where one can find book and reserve study rooms,” Billingsley said. “We also plan to add a KOMU weather report. At the end of the day, the goMizzou App will be the stop shop for faculty, staff and students to use on campus.”
