It’s summertime, which can only mean three things in the movie theater: explosions, action and pure adrenaline. What better way to kick off the summer action fest than with “Marvel’s The Avengers”? Scripted and directed by Joss Whedon, this movie offers viewers a wonderful experience with action, adrenaline and even comedy.

In “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Nick Fury is the director of a peace-keeping organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury is working on a project with a cube, called the Tesseract, from a different world when the facility out of which the agency is working is attacked by the Asgardian Loki, the adoptive brother of Thor. Loki steals the Tesseract and begins his quest to subjugate the earth. In order to counteract the acts of Loki, Furry collects some of the world’s superheroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, the Black Widow and Hawkeye, to fight for humanity.

The movie stars an ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson. These actors come together to form a great cast that works well together. The characters’ interactions with and chemistry between each other speaks for itself and keeps the audience wanting more. Each actor gives a wonderful performance, creating a balance so no major character is overshadowed by another, which is difficult to find in movies with such large, star-studded casts.

Not only does his script offer every viewer action and adrenaline, but Whedon incorporates wit and quick one-liners to offer comedic relief from the drama and action of the movie. Comedy is good, especially because action movies can get repetitive and boring with action scene after action scene. However, Whedon does take the comedy a little too far; at one point, it seemed he was putting a one-liner in every other conversation between characters.

Overall, “The Avengers” offers an action movie fan, and any comic book fan, a delicious treat to start off the summer movie experience. Even though the comedy is overplayed a little, the plot and cast of this movie outshine any error to be found. Joss Whedon does not disappoint his fans with this movie. Also, be sure to stay in the theater through the credits for a post-film surprise.
