CPD Chief considers changing jobs
Apr. 22, 2008
Columbia Police Department Chief Randy Boehm might be moving to University Hospital where he has applied to be head of security.
“It is a great opportunity,” Boehm said.
Boehm has been with CPD for 31 years and has been eligible for retirement for the past 11 years. Ernie Barbie, the retired head of security for University Hospital, was head of security for eight years before retiring on April 1. As head of security, Boehm would be managing operational, financial and personnel for University Hospital and parking for Health Services, MU Health Care spokeswoman Mary Jenkins said.
“It would be related to what I’m doing now but very different,” Boehm said.
Head of security is not a contracted position. The head of security earns between $55,000-$82,700 per year, Jenkins said.
Recruitment for head of security started in March. Boehm has applied for the position, but there is no timetable for the decision.
“I am one of several applicants,” Boehm said.
University Hospitals is now in the process of candidate selection.
“When we find the most qualified candidate, we’ll fill the position,” Jenkins said.
Boehm will not necessarily retire from CPD if he is not hired at University Hospital, he said.
