Loftin takes on Ice Bucket Challenge
Aug. 20, 2014
MU Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin had felt the cool sting against his back before.
As a faculty member and administrator, he has made a point of seeing his universities' teams play. And when they win, he sometimes gets drenched.
“This was better than Gatorade,” Loftin said, as he dried off following his go at the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Missouri coach Gary Pinkel challenged the chancellor Monday when Pinkel took on the challenge himself in front of his players after practice.
The challenge is the ALS Association's social media campaign that challenges participants to either dump a bucket of ice water over their heads or donate $100 to the association.
Loftin, who spoke to the Mizzou football team after practice Wednesday, said he hopes there is success — and more cool drenches— in Missouri football’s upcoming season.
“I want to watch Pinkel get doused every game,” Loftin said. “That’s my plan.”
As for who the chancellor is going to challenge, he hasn’t decided yet.
“I’m thinking about it,” he told reporters. “You up for it?”
