A pedestrian was struck by a car on campus Tuesday afternoon, according to the MU Police Department. The car drove away before authorities arrived at the scene, and police are still working to identify and locate the driver.
MUPD spokesman Brian Weimer was unable to confirm whether the pedestrian was also an MU student.
Weimer said the police were called about the accident around 4:54 p.m. on Oct. 19 after the pedestrian was hit by a moving vehicle while they were crossing a crosswalk on the corner of Rollins Street and College Avenue. Weimer said the person was taken to University Hospital after the accident. Hospital officials were unable to comment on the person's status.
The case is still under investigation, and MUPD is interviewing witnesses in an attempt to track down the car that hit the pedestrian.
According to previous Maneater reporting, motor vehicle collisions have killed four pedestrians and injured an additional six in Columbia between October 2014 and April 2015.
