Drug dispute leads to fight at Rock Bridge High School
At 8 a.m. Thursday, two students were reported fighting in the Rock Bridge High School north parking lot. Jason L. Schilke, 19, sent a text message to sell Christopher Shane Bowman, 17, drugs, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
Schilke had a knife in his waistband before the fight. Witnesses said they saw Schilke selling old prescription medicine. Police searched Schilke's vehicle and found three knives as well as multiple prescription medications.
Schilke admitted to his involvement in the drug sale and possessing a knife, but said he did not show it. He was charged with unlawful use of weapons and distribution, delivery, manufacture, or production of a controlled substance, according to CPD records. Bowman was arrested for a municipal charge of assault and he was released on a signature summons.
Theft at Student Recreation Complex leads to drug charges
Police responded to a report of a backpack stolen from the MU Student Recreation Complex early Thursday morning.
The backpack contained an iPad, MU Police Department spokesman Scott Richardson said.
Police tracked down the suspects — Shea Horstman, 21, and Dean Manning, 21 — and served them a search warrant at their residence on Silver Mill Drive.
The stolen backpack and its contents were recovered, as well as several cellphones that might have been stolen, Richardson said.
Marijuana and a bong were also found at the residence, according to MUPD reports.
Horstman and Manning were arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana.
Horstman and Manning were released on signature summons.

Batten was arrested on charges of failing to drive within a single lane, failing to exhibit proof of insurance, speeding and driving while intoxicated.

Officers were dispatched early Saturday morning to Respect Hall to investigate the reported odor of marijuana.
Once police arrived, they could smell marijuana coming from the residence, Richardson said.
Police made contact with Eric Price, 18, and found a glass pipe, according to MUPD reports.
Price was arrested on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and released on signature summons.
Four involved in motor vehicle accident
Officers were dispatched early Sunday morning to the intersection of Elm and Ninth streets to investigate a reported assault tied to a traffic accident.
There was a disagreement about who was at fault, and a fight broke out, Richardson said.
Bryce Woods, 20, Ryan Miener, 19, and Michael L. Clark, 19, were arrested on charges of deceiving the police.
They lied about who was in the vehicle, Richardson said.
Joel Schoenecker, 18, was also arrested on charges of deceiving the police as well as colliding with another motor vehicle.
Woods, Miener, Clark and Shoenecker were released on signature summons.
