Columbia Police Department found 10 to 20 grams of marijuana packaged for individual sale at a private Columbia residence near an elementary school.

According to a news release from the department, officers served a search warrant for narcotics and found the marijuana on Wheaton Court on Jan. 30.

“The proximity to West Boulevard Elementary School has to do with the charge, as does the way it was packaged,” CPD Capt. Brad Nelson said. “It was packaged individually, which means it was probably meant to be sold.”

Roosevelt Blair, the primary resident, was arrested for felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, according to the news release.

This warrant came after investigative work by the CPD Narcotics Unit.

This is not an isolated incident, Nelson said.

“We serve about 100 search warrants a year. This is just one of many,” Nelson said.

Narcotics offenses have increased recently. The number of search warrants served has gone up in the past five to 10 years, Nelson said.
