Casey’s General Store on Rangeline Street was robbed Monday, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

Police were dispatched to the store at 11:44 a.m. in reference to a robbery in progress, the news release stated.

An employee preparing to make a deposit was approached and robbed at knifepoint.

Police have no suspects.

“We don’t believe that anyone in the store knew the suspect,” Columbia Police Sgt. Ken Hammond said.

The suspect left the area on foot, running toward the wooded area behind the business with an undisclosed amount of money, the news release stated.

Police do not know what was taken.

“We don’t know how much money was or if anything else was taken,” Hammond said.

The suspect is described as a white male between 40 and 45 years of age. He is 5’9” to 5’11” with dirty blonde hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a green trench coat, khaki pants and a black hat, the news release stated.

This is not the first robbery that has occurred at this Casey’s General Store.

There were two robberies in 2007 and one robbery in 2006. This is the first robbery this year, Hammond said.

A manager at Casey’s declined to comment.
