A man robbed a Subway sandwich shop at Crossroads Shopping Center on West Broadway on Saturday.

Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1 p.m., according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

The release stated a man walked into Subway on Saturday afternoon, ordered a sandwich and displayed a gun at the cash register. The man fled north on foot with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. An immediate search for the suspect was unsuccessful.

Customers inside the shop at the time of the robbery were unaware a crime had occurred until store employees informed them of the incident. No one was injured during the robbery.

The news release describes the suspect as a white male, approximately 5 feet 4 inches, with scruffy facial hair and brown eyes. He was seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and carrying a handgun. So far no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

As of Monday, CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said she could give no further updates on the incident.

Saturday’s robbery is the eighth robbery reported in Columbia in the past month, according to online police records. In the past year, 72 robberies have been reported.

Anyone with information relating to this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
