Men's basketball blown out in Ames

The men's basketball team had its two-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night in Ames, Iowa when the Iowa State Cyclones beat the Tigers 71-55.

The loss also dealt a serious blow to MU's hopes for a No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the Big 12 Tournmaent next week in Dallas.

Iowa State (15-11 overall, 5-10 Big 12) used a stifling defense to take control of the game early and led 33-19 at halftime.&"nbsp" The Tigers (18-8, 9-6) never got closer than 14 points behind for the entire second half. The Cyclones' Tim Barnes led all scorers with 24 points while junior wing Rickey Paulding continued his recent hot streak by leading MU with 18 points.

One problem for the Tigers was foul trouble. Junior center Arthur Johnson and junior forward Travon Bryant both had four fouls when there was still 10 minutes left in the game.

MU will conclude its regular-season schedule and play its last home game of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Hearnes Center against first-place Kansas.
