It was another day at the office for senior Hannah Stevens and the Mizzou swim team as both the men and women’s teams were victorious in their season opener.

The Missouri men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted the 12th annual Show-Me Showdown on Friday and competed against teams from all over the state.

The Tigers were victorious in 21 combined events on both the men and women’s sides. Both teams won the 200 freestyle events, the 200 individual medleys and the 50 freestyle. They also won both of the 100 freestyles, the 500 freestyles, both 3-meter dives, both 200 free relays, both 1-meter scrambles and the 400 freestyles.

The women’s team had 700 points, while the men’s team finished with 676 points. Missouri State was the runner-up for both the men’s and women’s teams and finished with 541 points on the women’s side and 553.5 points on the men’s side.

While there were plenty of contributors to Missouri’s wins, a few individuals stood out. Stevens won two individual titles for the women’s team, and junior Kyle Goodwin and sophomore Giovanny Lima claimed two victories in two separate individual events for the men’s side. Stevens finished first in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke with times of 51.66 and 55.12, respectively. Lima was victorious in the 200 and 500 freestyle, finishing with times of 1:38.18 in the 200 and 4:32.51 in the 500. Goodwin was the top diving performer, winning the 3-meter dive and helping the team win the 1-meter team dive. He finished the meet with the best individual total score of 367.35.

The next meet for both teams is on Oct. 14 at home. The men’s team will take on SEC foe South Carolina, while the women’s side will battle both South Carolina and Arkansas.
