Three soccer starters suspended through Sunday’s game

Sarah Luebbert, Kaitlyn Clark and Bethany Coons have been suspended for violating team rules.

Three Missouri soccer starters, including leading scorer Sarah Luebbert, have been suspended through Sunday’s game for violating team rules, a Mizzou soccer spokeswoman said.

Junior Kaitlyn Clark and sophomore Bethany Coons were also suspended. All three did not travel to Thursday’s 2-0 loss against Southeastern Conference opponent Tennessee, and they will sit out Sunday’s contest against Weber State.

According to arrest records, Clark was arrested Saturday evening under suspicion of purchase or possession of intoxicants by a minor. It is unclear whether her arrest and the suspensions are related. Luebbert and Coons were not arrested with Clark.

Sophomore Kelsey Dossey, the starting goalkeeper, missed the Tennessee game due to illness. She is not suspended.

Luebbert has seven goals and three assists on the season, and Clark has added one goal and three assists. Although Coons has not scored a goal this year, she has started six games for Missouri.

This lack of offensive firepower played a key role in Mizzou’s loss Thursday night.

The game against Weber State is at 1 p.m. Sunday on SEC Network+. The players will be reinstated Monday.
